Need Collection Agency/Service?

I have a client who has not paid their bill for several months or even acknowledged that I send them bills. I'm going to try a few more things, like a certified letter and the like, but assuming that fails, I'd like to send them to a collection agency of some sort. So... Do you know any such service in the USA serving NY (Long Island, in particular) that will accept single instance collections? In other words, companies that don't have a minimum number of collections I need before they handle them? The amount due is over $300

Update:

I charge $150 per hour and it would take me a DAY to litigate this in small claims court. I'd rather get something than nothing, so $150 would do. This also is a one time client - they never called back and never complained about anything... And all my other clients are happy, paying, campers. Before I even took the job I was warned there was a possibility they might not pay... This isn't going to "break me" by any means... but this guy has his own collections staff... so I figure collections is something he understands.

It would be much cheaper and easier for you to take the client to small claims court yourself. If the client ignores your letters, he will most likely also ignore letters from a collection agency. In order for a collection agency to legally collect from a debtor, they must first take the debtor to court to get a judgment. For half of $300, I doubt that you can find a collection agency that will actually take your client to court.

If this guy understands collections, he knows that you are powerless to collect anything from him without a judgment.

Only $300? C'mon! At least half will be eaten up in fees. So just call your client, wish him a happy holiday, settle for half, and move on. You'll feel good. Don't give the fees to the collection agency. Give a brother a break, reach out, and make some peace.

To be honest, you might be better just sending the certified letter saying that this will be submitted to small claims court and then doing it. Collection agencies will probably give you 1/2 of what is owed to you.
