Huckabee supporters, what do you think about this quote?
Path to citizenship if illegals admit guilt & pay fine
What we cannot do is allow our laws to be flagrantly broken, acting as if the economic benefits to consumers justify their utter disregard for not only our laws, but potentially our security. In the case of immigration, our laws are clearly out of sync with the economic realities of our global marketplace. It would be sheer folly to attempt to suddenly impose strict enforcement of existing laws, round up 12 million people, march them across the border, and expect them to stay.
What does make sense is a revision of our laws, one giving those here illegally a process through which they pay a reasonable fine in admission of their guilt for the past infraction of violating our border laws and agree to adhere to a pathway toward legal status and citizenship. In exchange, our government gains the capacity to know who is here, why they are here, where they are, and whether they carry a communicable disease. But much of the debate has become mired more in definitions than in a real solution.

Did you actually read the whole thing carefully??
It sounds like he is saying that our laws need to be changed so they will no longer be illegal. They need to admit guilt, pay a fine all the while continue living in the US. That sounds like amnesty.
He calls it a path to citizenship but its amnesty no matter what he calls it. There is no negative consequence for breaking the law and taking advantage of our system.
twin, I agree with what you are saying. But, it isn't what huckabee is saying. He seems to want amnesty.

There is a path to citizenship, but once they flagrantly break the laws to get here, that path is closed. We don't need to round them up and march them across the border, it's their responsibility to LEAVE. We don't need to build a 1969 mile fence, we need to stop letting them send their kids to our public schools and using our tax funds to pay for them to learn English. We need to stop putting everything in English and Espanol. We need to make make life for them here so miserable that they will want to leave. Putting up a fence just makes it harder for them to leave.
