I agree with joe. Iowa has more churches than it does intersections. Observing the current political atmosphere in this country whatever Republican wins the nomination will have a very tough time winning the presidency and if they nominate a Fundy such as Huckabee it would be like shooting them-self in the foot.

What speaks volumes to me is the fact the percent of registered Dems vs. registered Reps. that turned out for the caucus was 2:1 and that Independents 2:1 supported a Dem candidate over a Rep one.

Huckabee has openly said that he wants to "change the constitution to reflect the christian values of our nation's people" or something along those lines. I know that he could never get away with a genocide but the effect he'd have on gay issues would be a huge problem. I also can't imagine him spending money on any sort of program to convert gay people, the religious right would probably see it as a waste of money in the same way they see spending money to help unwed mothers. Have you read "the handmaid's tale" by margaret atwood? it's a really good story about what would happen if the extreme religious right took total control. it's really creepy to see how much it resembles contemporary issues.

In my opinion, Mike Huckabee, as a Baptist preacher is exactly the opposite of what this country needs now (if ever). The fundamental religious right is more a blight upon America than a blessing. Their tendency is toward bigotry and intolerance when we desperately need acceptance and tolerance. They support ignorance and fight against science when our country is falling behind everyone else in the modern technological world. He would drag us back into the fifties rather than leading us into a new era.

The Department of Faith Based Initiatives will take over the duties of the IRS and the military under Huckabee.

Well, you know, Bush staffed practically his entire administration with "graduates" of Pat Robertson's diploma mill. Try as he may - and I'm sure he WOULD try - I don't think Huckabee could do much worse.

I don't believe there is a chance he will become president once his sermons become public.

As to this question being in the wrong category, how can that be when he has made his whole candidacy about religion? He made his whole candidacy right for this category, LOL.

I assume that 'Dr.' Dino will be in charge of Education, once he's released from prison. Maybe Huck will pardon him.
