Help with percentages, please?
Hi, Could someone please help me get my head around the following? Keeping the numbers simple, if a company's turnover one week was £100, and the next week it was £880, is this an 880% increase or an 8.8% increase?

880% (the number of hundreds in the second one is the number of multiples there is)
so if it was 70% and the original was £200 then the new version would be £140
or 150% of £200 is £300

Percent increase (or decrease) is found by first calculating the difference between the initial amount (100) and the final amount (880), and then dividing by the initial amount:
The percent increase is then (880 - 100)/880 = 780/100 = 7.8 = 780%.
You can also say that 880 is 880% of 100.

(1)£100 divided by £88O
(2)Answer multiply with 100%
100/880 X 100
=100/88X10
=8.8%
Hope you understand!

It would be 880%
1% is a one Hundreth
so for £100
1% is £1
10% is £10
100% is £100
880% is £880
8.8% of £100 is £8.80p
As 1% is a one Hundreth
50% off something in the sales is 50 / 100 or one half (Half price)
Hope this helps
