What is the best time of year, best weather, fewest people, to vacation in HAWAII? #2?

Driving tour around big island. Any other suggestions. I prefer to stay away from the usual places.

Hmmm... I would say October. Kids aren't out of school... it's still FAIRLY warm.. Hotel rates are down.

Fewest people is between thanksgiving and Christmas. Both of those holidays are extremely busy but in between is a ghost town.

However, the weather can be extremely volatile. At the beginning of December this year we had some of the worst rains we have had in years.

Mid Jan through Feb could also be a good time again the weather may be an issue.

Generally Hawaii is busy when school is out so just look at a school schedule and try to come out when most schools are in session.

Even when it is raining in Hawaii it is still in the 70's and 80's so you are not stuck in your hotel room unless you mind a little rain.

Your driving tour will take you one day - we just did it - it was a long day though.

You won't believe the difference in the climates there! Don't do the drive through the middle of the island early in the morning or in the evening - the fog can be a killer!

Find the "Painted Church" and visit that - it's cool and off the beaten path

Find the lady that make "Stone Cookies" and go there - get there early, they close early! The hard ones are not that great, but the coconut are! It's a matter of taste.

Be sure to tour an orchid greenhouse! They are never crowded and beautiful!

Get a hint from the natives! I talk to the Hawaiians who have lived there for their whole life, not the waiters from the mainland....have fun!

Anytime in the year is nice to go to Hawaii. It's sunny all year round. It's cooler from October to around March I'd say and it rains more often hence rainy season. For less crowd I would recommend October or right after the holidays, January. You can always count on warm humid weather even if it rains.

Go to Hilo for the native feel. its a fishing and navel port. The locals are awsome and extremly friendly. Anytime is a great time however, winter for us is the rainy season for Hawaii, but, the rains only last for an hour tops. Otherwise the temps are wonderful.

weather is stable year round, except in winter, you may have high waves/rip tides to contend with at the beach.

    the big island is great....

on the hilo side....go to hilos farmers market on saturday am. then snorkle the tide pools...i cant remember the name but about 30 miles approx south of hilo. go to the mauna loa macadamia nut factory.go to lava tree state park. visit akaka falls and rainbow falls.see the botanical gardens. go down to laupahoehoe point and read about the tsunami. go to volcano national park. when close to waimea, go open range horse back riding( you wont regret it). get malasadas at Tex's ( south of waimea) take a tour down into waipao valley, and hike to the beach.

on the kona side...see the painted church. rent a kayak and paddle over to captain cooks monument. go in the morning and you will likely see spinner dolphins near your boat :) snorkle at kahalu'u beach park.... best place to see LOTS of fish and sea turtles. north of hilo, "A" bay is lovely , as is spencer beach and hapuna beach.

january and feb you will see the whales! amazing!

have a great time and invest in this book "Hawaii: The Big Island Revealed"

Source(s): we LOVE the big island :)

I went for Thanksgiving, and it was great! I stayed on Kauai. The weather was beautiful -- warm enough to snorkel and lay in the sun. There were no crowds ANYWHERE, and I got to go to a luau for Thanksgiving, and that was so fun!
