I have a question about food plots for deer....?
I'd like to start a food plot for the deer on my property. And I was wondering what kind of forage grows in complete shade. Is there any type of forage that grows in complete shade? I also want something that provides the deer with food during summer through fall. I'd like all the information you can give me on different plant types and food plot brands! Thanks in advance! :)

on my property i plant several different crops but one stands out. Whitetail Clover. It is called Whitetail Institute that makes the stuff and the deer just love the stuff and the company that makes it makes a few different brands. They make a brand called Extreme Clover and it is made to grow just about anywhere. The stuff isn't cheap though but in my opinion it is well worth it. i planted some in my woods and it did great.

I would start with getting a general info here, but for my final selection and knowledge, you 'll find it very helpful to go to your local feed and seed store. Ask the guys there since deer have regional preferences, and you'll want to plant the right forage for the right season and that is a very regional issue.
In S. Georgia and N. Florida I plant a Custom mix which I purchase from my local farm store. I has winter wheat, rye, Australian winter peas clover and oats. I also mix in a few pounds of black eyed peas and a little corn too. I plant my plots in fall (september and october) and do not maintain them year round.
On of the most important things thought is to have your plot area prepped correctly. Can you till it and fertilize the soil before planting? This will make all the difference in the world to the growth rate of your plot.

The best thing to do is to contace the Couty Agent in your county and ask him/her what you sould plant that does well in your area.
