A long time ago, I had a SAT question, like this. A car went a mile uphill and averaged 50mph, then he went a
mile downhill and averaged 70mph. What was his average mph? This question was at the back part of the math section, and I thought it too simple for being so far back. Does someone have the right answer? PS: you only think it is 60mph
you have to figure out the time it takes to go a mile for both speeds and add them together and then divide by two since it is for a total of two miles.
It will take 1.2 mins to go a mile at 50mph.
It will take .8571428 mins to go a mile at 70mph.
The total time for 2 miles is 2.0571428 mins.
divide by 2 and get 1.0285714 min for a mile.
Divide 60min by 11.0285714 and you get: 58.333181 avg mph for the whole trip. The answer was rounded to 58.33mph
Be careful when you take the test. GL
There is an error above. It is a type the correct number should be 1.0285714 and not 11.0285714.

velocity =distance divided by time; v=d/t
distance traveled d = 2 miles
time t=1/50 hr+1/70 hr converted to decimal is 0,034 hr
so v=2/0.034=58.82 mph

Wouldn't it only be 60? haha I guess not because of what your PS said... but that's how I would figure it out. To find the average it would be (50+70)/2... which equals 60. what's wrong with that equation?
