If your card has the Visa or Mastercard logo on it then it can be used just like a credit card as long as you have the funds in your bank account.

A debit card that has a Visa or Mastercard logo can be used as a debit (PIN required) or credit (signature required) card. Either way, the payment is taken directly from your checking account. If you don't have the money in your account, your bank will charge you an insufficient funds fee, usually $30-$40.

A debit transaction happens immediately, while a credit transaction is not taken from your account until the business runs an "end of day" on their credit card machine, which can sometimes be several days later.

Yes - but it is a debit card, not a credit card.

You MUST have funds in your account to cover the purchases just like you were writing a check. Record the debit card purchases in your check register, too.

If it were a credit card, you would need to have available credit on your account. This is the difference between what you have already charged (and not paid off) and your credit limit.

Sounds like you are just getting started, so go carefully.

Overdrafts on your debit card may be processed by your bank. Meaning they will approve the transaction as though you had the funds available, charge you their overdraft fee (probably around $35 per transaction), and then deduct the fee and the overdraft from your account putting you even further in the hole. And oh by the way, by the time you figure out what's going on, you've already given the bank your next paycheck in fees.

Yes the transaction will be processed as a credit. A debit card can easily be used as a credit card most of the time unless it is a debit only or ATM card. If it is signed by Visa or another credit card agency it is usable as a credit card.

Yup u can use the debit card for everything that says credit. It just takes the money directly out of ur account rather than giving u credit u pay later. Dont go crazy!

A debit card can be rang up as a credit card, but the money is automatically debited from your account, not billed to you, like a credit card would be.

  • 1 decade ago

Yes, you can use it just like a credit card. Only difference with the debit card is the money is coming from your bank account.

yes you can, just a debit card subtracts the cost of the item from the amount on your card, but a credit card sort of makes a list of everything youve spent then adds it all up. a debit cards sort of like a pre paid phone, where you can run out of credit, but a credit cards a bit like a plan, where you can keep spending as long as you pay for it!

Yes you can if it is a debit Mastercard or Visa.

If not you can't use the number on your card you will have to go to the bank and get a debit Mastercard or Visa they can usually be attached to your account you just get a new card.

No you cannot. A debit and credit card are not the same thing.
