what's the difference here?

in Illinois a state-wide smoking ban went into effect January 1st. If caught smoking in a public building one is fined $250.00. It is considered a "CRIME", That being said, why is it that I can't smoke in a restaurant, yet an Illegal can come into this country and nothing happens? Both are against the law, so what the hell is the difference here?

United States laws do not apply to "illegals", but do apply to "legals"?

Or, if "smokers" constituted a potential voting block, like illegals, then "smokers" would be a protected class for politicians?

Anyway, your question presumes that "nothing happens" to illegals, which is not accurate. Illegals are encouraged to come to the United States with rewards of medical and educational benefits for the children they propagate here. And, if not for the recent citizen uproar, the politicians would, just for starters, grant "illegals" driver's licenses (in New York State), so they could get to and from their illegal jobs and support their illegal families. Also, "illegals" can have rallies where they bad-mouth and guilt-trip U.S. citizens for not granting them equal status with those who came here legally.

If an illegal smoked a cigarette, and was caught, he would be both fined AND deported. The difference is that you get to stay here, because you were born here. It is probable that fewer illegals will find it worth the risk to smoke than citizens.

If you go to Mexico and break the law, and are caught, you will also be fined, perhaps imprisoned, then deported... The Mexican who breaks the same mexican law gets to stay, because he was born there, and we will probably never *ever* let him into the US... Where he would possibly *love* to be deported to.

Whenever you want the jobs that illegals now do, and aspire for your children to fill those jobs, and will accept the same wages and working conditions, throw 'em out! the whole lot of them! For me, that will be a very long way away from how things set in my mind now. I do not see illegals as competitive for my wage, i see them as a factor that makes many of the goods i buy cheaper, and at some advantage to themselves and their families.

I don't think this problem of illegals will persist, because our economy needs these workers, and they will be documented in some way, so we can have them here, doing what they cheerfully do,.. and what we will not cheerfully do for the same wages, or under the same conditions.

You can't fine someone with no money... Chances are if they border hopped over here then they had mo money. Plus It would be hard to place an international fine against someone and it depends on the treaty agreement that the U.S has with other countries that decides whether these people are prosecuted or not.

These things are as different as night and day....
