Do you think people are all mostly the same, or mostly different?
What effect do you think this sameness or difference has on the way we relate and form communities?
1 AnswerPsychology5 years agoAnxiety sufferers: What is the difference between regular fear and anxiety fear?
Someone who suffers from anxiety described their experience of fear, and I didn't find it very different an experience from my own,.. except this person finds it a limit to their life, and I find it sometimes disconcerting, but something to just be felt and let go by. I am not a thrill sport nut, but I have had some life situations that required living around fear, and even when near constant alertness was wise, it was still do-able...
It is important to me to understand this difference, if you can explain it it would really be a service to at *least* me :)
Thanks!

1 AnswerLaw & Ethics1 decade agowhat factors led to the end of prohibition? links please?
i am wondering what social factors, what methods, caused people to suddenly change their minds on Prohibition. Why they suddenly quit believing in the hopeful expectation that prohibiting alcohol would end alcohol related problems, and instead chose to rationally evaluate the results. Who spearheaded this sudden change in view? Why did it work?

6 AnswersFriends1 decade agoHEAVY DRINKERS... What do you spend on drinking per week? How many hours do you work to earn your fun?
Hi, i have asked this one before, and gotten accused of being everything from a repressed kill joy church lady to a closet tippler... but i am none of those things. I am trying to understand why my mate is more willing to lavish time, money and attention on box wine (Ms. Merlot) than on myself, and why this is OK or necessary in his mind.
Somehow I don't think it would be productive to ask directly. Please enlighten me.
4 AnswersBeer, Wine & Spirits1 decade agoHow do I get a school kid from Peru as an exchange student in my home?
The local church extends ministry to kids in Peru. I think it would be a better use of the funds, if we mean to improve their lives and their community, to bring kids *here* and get them a decent education. After all, what is one more to most families?
I have no idea, and I mean *no* idea how to get the paperwork to allow this to happen... If you have good references or personal experinece of this sort of thing, I would appreciate your help. Thanks in advance!

2 AnswersOther - Society & Culture1 decade agoRegarding ADULTERY: Should it be illegal? A crime? why or why not?
I read the article about the korean law that allows for adulterers to be jailed: http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20081030/od_nm/us_adult...
It got me thinking... Marriage is a contract that is foundational to society. Should there be a criminal or financial penalty for cheating someone out of the promised return of their reproductive capacity, and 20 years of co-parenting?
If you believe that it should be a crime, or illegal, to commit adultery - what should be the penalty?
If you believe people should be free to break contracts, even those foundational to society... which other ones are fine to break?

1 AnswerLaw & Ethics1 decade agoA deaf coach who pretends not to hear things he *has* heard in order to manipulate people?
This guy reads lips extremely well... So even with his hearing aid out he does very well... But somehow he just is not able to 'hear' no, when that is your answer. He does things against what people are expressly telling him because he thinks he knows best for other people. I am also a disabled person, and it *really* offends me to see someone use a disability to manipulate others... But I am unsure how to best bring this up.
Advice welcome.
3 AnswersPeople with Disabilities1 decade agoFEMINISTS! What exactly *is* a feminist? What are they in favor of?
If feminists are about the benefit of women, then some allowance must be made for the differences in womens' lives... If no allowance is to be made for that difference, then they are for absolute equity between the sexes, and are really 'people-ists'...
There must be a couple different coherent definitions going here... Please explain yours, and why it is the best idea. Thanks :)
4 AnswersGender Studies1 decade agoWhy should we avoid the appearance of the occasion of sin?
I want a thoughtful answer on this one, in the light of our society's tolerance of a great deal of privacy and personal freedom... Why exactly should we *care* if it seems like we have had an opportunity to sin? Or for you atheists who haunt this place, to do wrong? It applies equally well whether you think *God* is looking (or exists) or not ;)
