Anxiety sufferers: What is the difference between regular fear and anxiety fear?

Someone who suffers from anxiety described their experience of fear, and I didn't find it very different an experience from my own,.. except this person finds it a limit to their life, and I find it sometimes disconcerting, but something to just be felt and let go by. I am not a thrill sport nut, but I have had some life situations that required living around fear, and even when near constant alertness was wise, it was still do-able...

It is important to me to understand this difference, if you can explain it it would really be a service to at *least* me :)

Thanks!

To me regular fear can be just "shaken-off" while anxiety fear consumes me. Anxiety fear is like taking something small and having it keep growing to the point it can make you physically sick (racing heart, hard to breath, light headed, crying, stomach ache, numbness in my hands and feet). It makes you jump to the worst possible outcomes to a situation. Anxiety fear HINDERS daily living while regular fear doesn't. Regular fear is a part of life while anxiety ruins life. Whenever something triggers my anxiety, it just keeps growing to the point I feel like honestly dying.

Sorry, this is the best description I can give. :/ I'm not good at expressing how i feel.

Regular fear has a meaning to it. You have a situation that you know is fearful but, in the back of your mind you know it's going to end.

Anxiety has no meaning to it, it is a total body encompassing feeling. There is no reason to feel this and your rational mind knows this but, your body doesn't. You don't know when or where anxiety is going to start, you also don't know when it is going to end. Which in turn increases your anxiety.

Anxiety is very close to the feelings you had when, you were a small child and had done something wrong and are waiting for the punishment you know you are going to have. That awful sick, trembling fear.

I am so happy, it was only a 35 minute drive ( 70 minutes total) but absolutely no sign of anxiety or panic i shopped till I dropped - brilliant! I will now go for the next stage DUAL CARRIAGE way, probably at the weekend, with my husband accompanying me first then the solo drive, if successful the final stage of driving on motorway

Anxiety builds. Fear is the reaction to anxiety.

Regular fear is apprehension of a threat, either to the person himself, or to others around him. Almost always physical harm. Anxiety on the other hand is best described as "discomfort" over a not-so-real threat, either imaginary, or a threat that will not physically harm someone or someone they know. Anxiety can be much worse as they start to panic and become immobilized with worry or hypothetical/potential threats. You can't usually pinpoint the exact cause of anxiety.

They do both cause the same effects; you can experience rapid heart beat, shortness of breath, and causing your muscles to tense up. Really big anxiety can cause insomnia, fatigue, make you absolutely miserable, and you'll be absolutely restless.

I hope this made sense. (:

Anxiety fear is where you overthink and can't get over it for a long, long while, and you can't face it because you're THAT scared of the outcome.

Normal fear is where you can brush it off pretty quickly after it's done and over with.
