Another artist getting death threats from Muslim and having to go into hiding (sigh). Your reaction?

Here's the story:

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/europe...

(Anyone else get a feeling of deja vu?)

At least there is one ray of hope: 'Wouter Bos, the deputy prime minister [of the Netherlands], seemed to take a stand for freedom of speech, saying: "In a democracy, we do not recognise the right not to be insulted." '

Your reaction? Come on, moderate Muslims, make your voices heard!

    Well, well, well ...

That is just horrible. I may or may not agree with her art, but that's what freedom of speech is all about. Last night someone posted a question asking if we're for freedom of speech or political correctness. Political correctness has become more about not bruising somebody's ego than about being just and fair. This HAS to stop. People have a right to express themselves whatever way they like. You don't like the show - don't go see it. As simple as that.

I love what she said in that article: “Works of art can be provocative. It is not an artist’s job just to paint flowers. Art should shine a light on social issues.”

Freedom of speech, and free of religion bring values to all our lives. But, if freedom of speech is used to try to deny others freedom of religion then the speaker is quite a moron.

Insulting a religion gets re-actions, no doubt. So why do it?

Why should any moderate Muslims agree that a person has the right to slam their religion? Quite amusing if they do.

And the quote from the moron in the Netherlands only shows how retarded people are. He defends the freedom of speech and says nothing about the insults directed at Muslims.

If you or I take it onto ourselves to print such garbage about a religion as the Artist did, then to bad. And calling her an Artist is pretty much of a stretch. She did this on propose knowing full well that she would get a re-action.

It seems the criticism of Mr. Zreika was that he urged "integration" into the Australian society. Specifically he urged "greater integration and for Muslims to "mend their ways". Muslims have strict dress codes and behavior codes to which the leaders want their followers to adhere. Muslim leaders do NOT want their followers to be influenced by non-Muslims, let alone to "mend their ways" to become more like them. I supposed suggesting to follow the ways of non-Muslims is akin to espousing heresy. What are sincere Muslims supposed to do? Qur'an [Surah al-Hujurat (49):15] Mumim (true Muslims) believe in Allah and His Messenger (Muhammad), and without doubt they strive in the cause of Allah( jihad fee Sybil Allah) with their wealth and their lives. Those! They are the sincere. إِنَّمَا الْمُؤْمِنُونَ الَّذِينَ ءامَنُوا بِاللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِ ثُمَّ لَمْ يَرْتَابُوا وَجَهَدُوا بِأَمْوَلِهِمْ وَأَنفُسِهِمْ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ أُوْلَئِكَ هُمْ الصَّدِقُونَ Innama almu/minoona allatheena amanoo biAllahi warasoolihi thumma lam yartaboo wajahadoo bi-amwalihim waanfusihim fee sabeeli Allahi ola-ika humu alssadiqoona

I think it was Lincoln who said it was foolish to give religious freedom to a group that didn't value it, and refused to extend it to others. Part of the problem is that we have a democracy, rather than a republic.

I'm not very impressed. It looks like a deliberate attempt at provocation to me. No doubt the next thing they will do is have Mohamed wear a pig costume and swig from a bottle of whisky while buggering Omar.

normalisation of same-sex preference in the english-speaking world largely begins with the publication of te lawrence' autobiography 'seven pillars of wisdom' - which is full of thinly disguised homosexual lovestories.

people could sneer at elderly, overweight oscar wilde - however clever he was; but you couldn't call lawrence of arabia a softy.

arabs were the first gay lovers to gain respectability in the west - they invented it. now they are pretending that muslims don't even know what paederasty is.

it would be funny, only it isn't.

  • It's the same crap all over again.

There are always people who will use violence to force others to keep their mouths shut, especially when it is offensive to them.

    That being said,

Grow the hell up. If you can't shrug off someone mocking what you believe, how will you handle real problems in your life?

People get mad of the dumbest things.

My reaction, as ever, is complete disgust at religious extremists.
