Who Does San Diego consider it's rival in the NFL?
I have paid attention to the AFC west for a number of years and San Diego has always been just kinda their. I know the Raiders have both the Broncos and Chiefs they hate and vice versa. The Chargers just don't have any natural rivalry with any team and I have always found that odd. I have two reasons for it tell me if you think I am right .
1) Weak fan base they have no real die hards seriously did you know any Charger fans before the LT era, I think their are more golfers in San Diego then NFL fans.
2) Never won a Super Bowl so just don't know how good it could be.

If you have paid attention to the AFC west you would know that San Diego has won the division 3 out of the last 4 years.
Their rival is the Oakland Raiders. But because the Raiders have been down the past few years it may not seem like much of a rivalry. This rivalry has existed for more than 40 years, dating back to the old AFL days.
The Broncos are also a rival. Did you see the hate on display during the last game they played at Qualcomm stadium? Oh by the way the Chargers won that game 23-3.
The Raiders and Broncos do not hate the Chiefs. The Chiefs aren't worth hating.
The Charger fan base is as rabid and loyal as any other fan base in the country. Teams have come and gone in L.A., but the Chargers have stayed in San Diego despite going through a number of down years. Every franchise has had its ups and downs. But the Chargers will always be in San Diego.
The San Diego Chargers won the AFL championship in 1963 by beating the Boston Patriots by a score of 51-10.
The Chargers were a great AFL team. They were down in the 70's, but then came the "Air Coryell Years". The most exciting team in NFL history. Period. Fouts. Jefferson. Winslow. Joiner. The list goes on and on.
Followed by more years of despair and heartache. All fans go through it. Charger fans are no different.
Then came 1994. Stan Humphries. Natrone Means. Seau. Rodney Harrison. Traveling to Pittsburg and beating them in the AFC championship game. Only to run into The San Francisco juggernaut in Super Bowl XXIX. More heartache. More despair.
And now the LT era. Rolling over our AFC west rivals like they were not even there. Winning 15 out of 17 home games. Remember when your Chiefs used to win at home?
I know hundreds of Charger fans... and I live in ARIZONA!!!

They have been playing Raiders in AFC west for long time. so I think the Raiders is Chargers rival.. It's kinda like So Cal, No Cal rivalry thing.. BTW, Chargers had the glory past dated back to Air Coryell, Dan Fouts days... back in those day Chargers would like up the scoreboard, but sadly they got no D back then.

Well, their front office and GM seems to be their worst enemy (kinda like a West Coast Miami).
As for actual rivals...Since thr Rams and Raiders both ditched L.A., there are no real ones. I know they do seem to hate Oakland witha passion though.
And you are right on both counts. Very few of their current "apologists" seem to know anything bout Fouts, but sure do know all about LT.
BUT...a third point, having lived in LA....all of SoCal is very much a frontrunning bandwagon region......which is why LA cant keep a football team (have a losing season and you cant sell tickets), so the simple fact that they have KEPT a team this long does say something for their fan base. Otherwise they would have moved, also.

They tend to focus on whoever is strongest in the AFC West. Having been to a few games (I am in Los Angeles) the divisional matchups are the ones seen every year.
Prior to Tomlinson have been many guys, just he has outrun all previous RBs they (and any other team) has had. They also had some guys by the names of "Dan Fouts" & "Charlie Joiner".

Oakland Raiders and the Pats.

The Broncos would be the only team considered for a rivalry, solely because they have been the only team to consistently pose a threat to them.
