'70 Corvette vacuum system leak?
A friend of mine got a '70 Corvette for Christmas (lucky stiff), with a couple issues, one of them being leaks in the vacuum system. I had an idea in which he could buy cheap colored smoke bombs and set them in front of the intake and look for colored smoke seeping from the hoses and find leaks that way. Is this a good idea? What's the best way to find where the leaks are?

the best way to find vacuum leaks is to spray some starter fluid or ether around the hoses if it is sucked in it will rev the motor, the hose closest to where you where spraying is probably the suspect. if it isnt any of the hoses it could be a seal, such as the intake manifold seal. a carb gasket or any of many numerous things. i dont think your goin to have any luck with the smoke bombs. because it is a vacuum and smoke wont come out of the holes it will just go into the cumbustion chamber an out the exhaust

Can probably pop the hood and then pull off one vacuum line connection at a time, and see which ones affect the problems the car is having.
