Did my sister try to kill herself???????

My sister is 16 and I'm 15 and yesterday I morning I came home from a sleepover at my best friends house and I saw my sister laying on the kitchen floor and there was an empty bottle of advil pills next to her. Her lips were purple but she was still awake and I called 911 and then my parents. Luckily my mom was already on her way home from the store so we followed the ambulance to the hospital. She had to get her stomach pumped and they kept her at the hospital over night and they just moved her to a suicide watch place and she has to stay there for 3 days. She said she didn't try to kill herself and it was an accident but the doctors don't believe her. my mom and I don't know whats going on, shes never been suicidal. Could a person really take an entire bottle of pills and not try to die?? Was she trying to kill herself??? I can't stop thinking about her and what's wrong.

It was no accident, she is despondent about something, this age is very hard on everyone, she should get some professional counseling if nothing else.

Yes, it is possible to take an entire bottle of pills and not die. Taking pills is one of the least effective ways to try and kill yourself. I took over 100 extra strength aspirin, and over 30 800mg ibuprofen, and I lived. Still suffer today because of it, but alive. This is not your fault, so please do not take responsibility for this. You had to have been terrified to walk in and see your sister like that. Looking back, there was nothing that I should have wanted to have died over. There is no way that she was not not trying to commit suicide with the evidence that was next to her. Maybe she is trying to avoid admitting that she did it. I don't know. Just be there for your sister, she will be in a lot of pain, not just physically, but emotionally as well. She's going to yell, and cry, and scream, and say things that she really doesn't mean. Just keep telling her that you love her. Your family is going to be the only people that will help her through this. You guys, and some intense therapy.

Don't give up on your sister, please? No matter what!

    She might have.

I dont see how a person could take a whole bottle of pills and say that they did that by 'accident'. Something ISNT right about that. The hospital did a good job by putting her on suicide watch. Hopefully they'll be able to figure out exactly whats going on with her.

You say that shes never been suicidal. Yeah you can THINK THAT. Most teens who are suicidal are the ones that you NEVER suspect of being it. I know some teens who are getting straight A's, have tons of friends, and who are in good relationships, yet theyre suicidal.

Since you are so close to your sister in age you should try to talk to her, let you know that youre there for her no matter what.

What does her best friend think? she probably would have confided in a best friend.

It does look suspiciously like suicide.

Is there a boyfriend involved? That's often the problem. is she pregnant? Get herpes? Someone molested her and she fears to tell?

There is something she feels she cannot tell her family. It's not usually that she is flunking in school, the flunking is a symptom of other troubles.

She's probably denyng it becasue she is embarrassed.

She did want people to know how unhappy she is feeling.

Now she is in a safe place at the hospital.

She can begin to get help so she will not feel so badly.

This will take time. Everyone will have to keep a close watch on her until she is more stable.

I hope things will be better soon.

eating a whole bottle of pills is dangerous to anyones health

she may not have known that it was a bad idea to eat that many pills. if she is having a tough time at school or if things are not going that great in her life then maybe she was trying to kill herself.

hope she gets better. god bless

You may well be right. I would talk to your Mum about your concerns of your sister. Maybe one or both of you could talk to your sister together pointing out the dangers.

Only she knows the real answer to that.

It does sound like she needs help though.

talk to her tell her you r so glad it was an accident as you love her so much you wouldnt know what to do if she had died, this might make her think about who she would affect if she had done it on purpose and succeded
