6mm threaded hole stripped. What size drill and tap should I use?

It's in aluminum and there is plenty of surrounding material. Would 1/4-20 give me enough thread or should I go 7mm? It needs to hold about 20lbs of pressure and it gets hot (thermostat housing)

just go buy a product called heli-coil. they work great and will

repair any bad threads. no need to redrill!

id say either heli coil it or use some new stuff from permitex were you just squeze it into the hole thread in your bolt and it will set up and make threads that can hold more than aluminum threads if i remember right. heli coils have been around for a while and have known guys to use them to replace damaged head bolt threads.
