More than likey if water's already gotten into the distributor cap then it's already ruined. Take it off (make sure to label which wires go where) and look at it. There may be hairline crack in the cap or it may be as simple as not being installed tight enough. Also check for a white dry substance to be caked up on the metal contacts inside the cap. That would be carbon build up caused by water/corrosion. It is possible to clean that off with battery terminal cleaner but you would be better off just buying a new cap.

There is a spray product at auto stores for that purpose. When it happened to me, I just popped of the distributor cap and blew a hair dryer into it for a little while.

The cap is held in place by two metal clips , one on each side. Pop them off, turn the cap over and spray WD40 inside it. Wipe with a clean cloth, reinstall cap and drive as usual.
