Can I play my pc music through my home stereo system?

You can with a variety of different hardware choices; it really depends on your setup.

For instance, I am using wireless speakers that plug into the "audio out" port on the back of the PC to send the music to the speakers.

Pros- Easy setup and dedicated speakers that you can move around the house.

Cons-Each speaker needs a power connection (and they have those annoying power bricks that clog up your outlets) and the reception can get a little flaky in my setup as I have a bunch of other wireless devices pumping out the radio waves.

Logitech has a system called the Logitech Wireless Music System for PC. It has a USB transmitter that gets stuck in the back of the PC and a wireless receiver that has RCA (stereo) cables that you connect through your receiver.

There is also a device called a Squeezebox which uses a small application on your pc to play the music, but be careful; not all of these players support the DRM that protects a lot of music these days.

There is also a device from Apple called the Airport Express which gives the ability to push your iTunes to the stereo, although out of the box doesn't come with a remote control (although you can buy one).

My dad is a DJ and has a mobile stereo setup that he plays music on. His source for his music is a laptop computer. All of his music is in MP3 format. You just need to know where to connect the computer to the stereo.
