Question for people who plan to vote in the presidential (USA) elections?

First, I assume (always a dangerous thing) that most people will agree that one of the jobs of the USA president is to interact with other foreign countries. And I assume that most people will agree that part of this interaction will include setting foreign policy and promoting viable diplomatic relations.

Now I am also going to assume that most people realize that there are a significant number of countries in this world who treat women as second class citizens and will not have any substative dealings with women.

So, if the USA elects a woman as President, how will this change foreign relations and how will this hinder the USA's ability to interact with a large segment of the world's population?

    Foreign countries will accept it either way. Looking at it in the most geralistic view, they kind of have to. For instance, look at the German Chancelor. She's female and does a better job with foreign relations than most EU countries.

  • That's actually a valid question that I had not previously considered... she will be viewed as weak by many cultures and nations, simply because she is a woman, and those countries WILL test her. Based on what we have seen of her, I do not belive she would be up to any serious foreign relations test, challenges or conflicts.

    But even more than her being a woman... I just believe that she would be an unmitigated disaster at foreign policy. Nothing in her history or personality or experience leads me to believe she would be any better in that realm than the guy currently sitting in the Oval Office that is everyone's favorite whipping boy...

    If I had the option of voting for a woman that I liked and thought could do the best job overall, I would vote for her. I do not believe that we as a country should change domestic policy (ie don't vote for woman) to satisfy other nations.

    Should we keep women in the dark ages because someone else may not want to play nice or should we set the example.

    Understand I am not saying that HC is the woman, I do not think that she is. What I AM saying is that this one issue should not keep a woman out of the white house. All the issues should.

    Being a woman never hurt Margaret Thatcher in being Prime Minister of the UK, nor Golda Meir in being PM of Israel, and Ms. Bhutto did a fine job in Pakistan, may God rest her soul. The US is in an unusual position in that its favor is very important to virtually any other country in the world, it is highly likely that other countries would find it very easy to accept and be polite and even gracious to a woman US President. As always, the best qualified person should get the job. Not, as in 2000, someone the media said the masses would feel most comfortable sitting down with for a beer. That has not worked out at all well, has it?

    Out with the old and in with the new. Men have screwed up this country and the world forever. People need to broaden their horizons throughout the world. I plan on voting for Hilary Clinton and I enjoy the aspect that her husband was a former president and feel like we'd be getting two good minds for the price of one. Even if we elected Britney Spears I couldn't see her doing more harm to the world than Mr. BUSHwacker. I think a lot of people are ready for a change. There are way too many "OLD" men with "OLD" ways in governments all over the world who still wish to hold women down to a subservient level ... I say "F" them all!

    First of all it shouldn't matter if the president is a man or a woman although that may affect relations with a few countries I think hillary will win the election because some will just look around her views and just vote for her because she is a woman although still others will see that and think she is not a proper choice because of it you propose an interesting subject that many people may not even think of, you are quite astute.

    Not voting for Hillary, but for reasons other than her gender. I agree that a significant number of countries in this world treat women as second class citizens, but America has never been one to "conform" and I don't think that is a good enough reason not to have a woman as president. Plus, look at all of the powerful women who have drastically changed our world;

    I think that they will be forced to deal with a super power whose president happens to be a woman. Look at England, she is the figure head of the country and I do not believe that there have been any seriously problems.

    I don't think that will matter who is elected whether its a man

    or a women until who is elected can do something with OPEC and China's trade deficit and immigration. The only

    candidate that has truly addressed these key issues is Ron Paul . Those 3 keys issues will make or brake this country

    as we know today...

    This would be a break in todays society...these countries would be forced to recognize, maybe not all women, but at least this one woman as a figure of authority and respect her...i think this would be good for our world...im not sure if hilary is the right woman but we'll see...
