Christians, why are you Christian?
Ok this only half smart ***. I know the knee-jerk reaction for some people is going to be "because it's the truth" but I ask you to actually think on this one. Give me something better then your standard regurgitated answer and play into the stereo type.
I know why I am NOT Christian. I am curious as to why some people ARE?
Yes it is woad, and I have answered the question every time it was asked of me. :) I'm just interested on seeing the varity of answers. It's interesting. :)
Stephanie why do you assume I have no peace and joy with my gods? I do. What I find interesting, personally is that the two testimonies here of conversions were VERY like mine with my gods. I suppose when a divine claims you, they make no bones about it....
Child: What do I want to hear? You are assuming and you know nothing about my motives. There are a few really good answers here. Why are they good? They were thought out and heart felt. THAT'S what I was looking for

When I added you to my contacts, I was Wiccan. But you might remember I was having a bit of a struggle with that faith, but at the same time I was trying to tear down Christian ideals, and rejecting them TOTALLY.... TO EVERY EXTENT POSSIBLE!! :)
Well, let's just say, during my quest for who I was, I had an epiphany, courtesy of God. Jesus was the one for me, and it overwhelmed me to know that it was only GOD.
I took a few months off from Y!A because, well, I didn't know what to say. I had been Wiccan. Now suddenly I'm Christian??? Then I realized, I couldn't worry what anyone thought of it, no matter how strange. Because Jesus died for me, and I know this in my heart.
I can't explain why it happened, except God brought me back, called me back, whatever. All I know is the change came completely and suddenly and wonderfully. EVERYTHING CHANGED about me and my beliefs so suddenly and I could not stop it. It was amazing, the presence of God I felt while I cried, asking why He left me, why He abandoned me all those years ago. But it was a stirring, a vast roaring, and a whisper and a screaming in my heart, that JESUS is the way, the truth, and the life. And He has NEVER left me. No matter what I have done, He's been waiting. And I came back.

In all honesty, I am no strong believer in Christianity. I do not emphasize my life on that religion. I've been through a lot of traumatic experiences in my life that should make me not believe in God.
But I can tell you I am a Christian. Only because I've had actual miracles happen in my life that don't just "appear" out of thin air, or even have an explanation behind it. I also believe it's better to have a faith and belief in something, only to find out it is false, then to be wronged if it's real in the end. Isn't that how life should be? Not religion specifically, but to have hope until proven completely wrong?
But that is just my point of view.

First, I must point out that I was NOT raised in a Christian home. We were always taught that Jesus was a liar, possibly a lunatic, but above all else, very definitely dead.
In my mid 20's, I was facing a crisis in my life. Someone asked if he could pray for me, and my attitude at that time was, "Whatever floats your boat! Whatever!" Besides, talking to a dead man will NEVER amount to a hill of beans, so to speak.
So Brian prayed, and surprisingly, God answered! I had (what I can only describe as) a "revelation" that Jesus truly IS the Son of God, in which every fiber, and every cell in my body was screaming out this message to me!!!
The story is too long to go into all the details, but suffice it to say that I had an encounter with Jesus Christ that has changed my life completely!
After the initial shock, when I was finally able to respond with "Uh - oh - uh - OK", when I actually said "OK", I felt the Love of God flow through my body, I felt forgiveness for every thing I had ever done wrong, and I felt clean in my conscience, my soul and mind.
Like I said, I've never been the same since that day, and as a result, I had to change my views, my opinion, and my mind about Jesus.
It's amazing how that once you've actually met Someone, you can no longer deny His existence!

Because while lots of people are interested in studying those religions, Christianity is the most dominant in the US, and thus the one that gets the most attention. It's one thing to study a religion for personal understanding and another to try and understand a religion whose adherents have the power to impact my life. I ask and answer a lot of questions in regards to Christianity because I was raised Christian, gave it up, and live in a largely Christian country. It effects me therefore I am more worried about it than say Hinduism, which has little to no impact on me.

HD - found the question interesting and I found the answers pretty much what I expected.
It is amazing how Christians don't believe we can find peace, joy and wisdom in any other religion. Like several responses here: change the word "God" to "Odin" or "Our Gods" and we could be talking about the same experiences.
Unlike most of the responses is HOW I became a heathen. After I quit trying to make Christianity fit in my life, I spent years researching and studying religions while being a pagan. I found that "peace and joy" when I found heathenism. I also found challenges, a demanding lifestyle, and a quest for more and more knowledge.

Christian's are probably Christian's because we we believe that the bible is true to it's word being the word of God written as an instruction manual for all of mankind. to aid everyone from the weak to the strong in the knowledge that without God there is nothing but death and destruction of both life and the soul or souls of mankind.gods love is more than any one man can understand.he loves us so much that he gave his only begotten son Jesus christ.who while knowing all the while that he was going to be tortured for our sins and the sins of the entire world.so the we may be forgiven of our sins, and have the chance to enter into the kingdom of heaven.it hurts me, when I see people who have been decieved by even one of satans many fallen angels,i've had my fill of quite a few of them my self.praise God for sending us the salvation there is in jesus.

Something unexplainable happened in my life, and after doing some research, I found that it could only have been a miracle. I felt something stirr inside me, like I had been touched by something amazing. So, I went to church a few weeks later, and I have been going ever since!

Well I am not Christian?
I have my own beliefs, taken from Jesus, Mohamed, Moses, Bud ah, Socrates 500 BC (In life there is only good knowledge. Only one evil ignorance.)
Marie Ebner Eschenbach 1830-1916 (In youth we learn in age we understand.)
Chang-tzu approximately 350 BC (For the Taoist all things are relative and one day there will come a great awakening, when we shall realize that life itself was a great dream.)

Why should I (or anyone else for that matter) give a non-regurgitated, non knee-jerk response for a regurgitated, knee-jerk question such as this?
By "actually think" you are making it sound like you want answers that you agree with or that sound good to you rather than the truth.

Coming to the realization that there is more to life than just me and knowing I don't have to trust in humans for absolute truth...
Rom 3-
3. For what if some did not believe? shall their unbelief make the faith of God without effect?
4. God forbid: yea, let God be true, but every man a liar; as it is written, That thou mightest be justified in thy sayings, and mightest overcome when thou art judged.
Trusting in that God sent His Son to the cross to pay for my iniquities...what a gift!...how can you NOT accept that? :)
