My car makes a weird noise?
I have a 1998 Buick Skylark that makes a strange noise that only happens when I first start the vehicle or if it has not been driven for at least 8 hours. The noise sounds like it is coming from the passenger front end, possibly the tire area but I am not exactly sure. It is a clangy metal sound, it makes the noise a few times. Then stops, then again, then stops. It can happen at least 3 or 4 times. It happens whether I am idled or driving, that does not seem to matter. Other than that the car runs fine. This has been happening for months. I have brought it to a mechanic but of course he said the car was fine.
Any info is appreciated, 10 points for best answer! Thanks!
I drive my car everyday, the longest time it would sit without being driven is 1 day. I know this sound is difficult to explain, kind of reminds me of the sound of a cow bell if you were to hit it a couple of times. It does not make a screech sound.

I own a shop, and have seen similar things. Have someone take a look at the harmonic balancer. This is a pulley that is attached to the crankshaft, at the bottom of the engine, and is the main big pulley. They have been known to come apart, and makes a cow bell sound. Have it checked out, or it could leave you stranded on the side of the road. Insist they look at that pulley, as I have seen them run fine, and then come apart, and go through the radiator, or worse.
Glad to help out, Good Luck!!!

Serpentine belts. If it sounds like some screeching metal sound, then the belts either need to be tightened, loostened, or replaced. This only happens when starting the car after not driving it for a while.

Well, I used to drive like an idiot and go about 115 mph and do a bunch of burnouts. This caused my car to make really weird noises too, but after four months it now makes no noise. It will eventually stop, and your car making weird noises doesn't mean it is broke down or anything.
