  • Estimated self-employed taxes for Rhode Island?

I am trying to figure out someone's estimated self-employed taxes for 2009 in Rhode Island. This person was a W2 employee during majority of the 1st quarter, then became owner of partnership. He wants me to figure out his estimated self-employed taxes to pay quarterly for this year. I am using the 2009 RI-1040ES form and not sure if I only include guaranteed payments or do I also include the W2 wages as well? 1st line says Modified Federal AGI which I assume would include W2 wages. Any help is greatly appreciated & earns best answer! Thank you!!

  • Do you commute more than 10 miles to work? How are the rising gas prices affecting you?

My current total commute to work and back home again is 40 miles per day. The company I work for will be moving its office in a couple months. I estimate that my total commute to work and back home again will at least be between a total of 44 - 50 miles per day.

The 40 miles everyday is already taking its toll and a decent amount of my paycheck. I've concerned taking a bus which would definiteluy cut my commuting cost but I have children and need to be able to leave work if necessary and do not have the time to wait for the bus.

I just don't know how long I can take the financial strain especially if gas prices continue to increase. I was going to ask my manager if I could work from home one day a week but he had previous made a comment that he wants me in the office everyday, Mon - Fri. So I'm not going to even ask about that.

I'm sure many of you are in this situation. How are the rising gas prices affecting you and your decision to commute to work?

  • My car makes a weird noise?

I have a 1998 Buick Skylark that makes a strange noise that only happens when I first start the vehicle or if it has not been driven for at least 8 hours. The noise sounds like it is coming from the passenger front end, possibly the tire area but I am not exactly sure. It is a clangy metal sound, it makes the noise a few times. Then stops, then again, then stops. It can happen at least 3 or 4 times. It happens whether I am idled or driving, that does not seem to matter. Other than that the car runs fine. This has been happening for months. I have brought it to a mechanic but of course he said the car was fine.

Any info is appreciated, 10 points for best answer! Thanks!
