New Govenment program for poor schools! Now this is what NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND was suppose to do!?

Well, I know how NCLB was promoted. But it is one of the reasons WHY these schools were in such bad shape. NCLB takes money away from schools that have problems and funnels it into those that are highly ratedd. This has the effect of stripping much needed assistance from the schools that need it most.

This "Students First" program is a well-intentioned attempt at a corrective--and its better than nothing---which is what these students were getting under the NCLB. However, my concern lies in the fact--noted in the story--thatthe new courses are being SUBSTITUTED for education in math, literacy skills, etc. That is not going to help in the long run--in fact it will hurt these students. All it does is condemn them to a permanant status as a blue collar worker, with little chance for advancement and without the background needed to attend ccolllege.

BTW--I do teach at the university leve.

how about you grow up in a poor neighborhood and go to a public school that has no money because the people running the education system are complete idiots?

It's not funny when the best and most viable solution is to join the military, which, contrary to the average moron's beliefs, actually saves the kids life, and changes him to be more successful than he ever was.
