Which nation is safer? Thailand or Malaysia?
Right now, I am planning a possible one week vacation to either Thailand or Malaysia. I am wondering which nation is generally considered safer.

It is generally safe in both Thailand and Malaysia. However try to avoid going to southern part of Thailand. Muslims insurgents have been fighting for political independence for a couple of years already and they have no qualms to resort to violence to put pressure on the central government. There have been many bombing incidents in the past where many innocent lives were killed. Hotels and bars are some of their favorite target. The latest bombing incident happened just about two weeks ago. Elsewhere in Thailand it is very safe
In the Malaysia, though there is no violence attack but there are a lot of crimes. most of them involving tourists cheatings, handbags snatchings, rapes, burglary etc. Just be extra careful when you go around Malaysia especially in big cities like Kuala Lumpur. Elsewhere it is safe to travel.
Source(s): In short, i would say both Thailand and Malaysia are safe for you to visit. Both countries have a lot to offer, if you plan to visit one of them, then try not to miss the other one. - johanssmLv 51 decade ago
I am a Malaysian living in Kuala Lumpur city and a frequent visitor to Bangkok,Pattaya,Krabi and Phuket.
I can tell you and anyone directly that i found that Thailand is a much safer place.( excluding southern Thailand states like Yala and Songkla - some terrorist there ) but i wont name what type of terrorist there, as some people are so 'sensitive".
Thai have better value for money, more attractions, more choices, more culturally enriched and most important>>>better services and courtesy
The above are all seriously lacking in malaysia.

I think Singapore and Malaysia are good. most of the people can speak english so you would have no trouble in comunication. Thailand is good as well, but the environment is not very good, noisy, not very clean in the city and people are not very fluent in english compared to the countries above. but if you would like to experience the real feeling of southeast asia, Thailand is the very place to visit. i like the two countries but personally my favorite is Thailand. you can feel something totally different from the two countries and what you have never done in england or other part of europe(hard to explain but why not just try it?). short stay in Bankok(the capital city in Thailand) won't make you exausted because of the difference of the environment. if you have time and want to try a bit more, nice to visit such as Ayutaya. lots of ruins of Bhudism. worth taking a look at. hope this helped you.

I was once a tourist in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and I was robbed at knife point in Jalan Bukit Bintang. Having said that, for me, Thailand is safer.

Think Thailand would be the best choice. Especially if you like nice beaches. In the southern part there's problems, same goes for Northern Cambodia.

Definately Thailand is safer. Malaysia is a muslim country, and as usual has trouble with radical muslims kidnapping / blowing up tourists. I am off to Thailand on Sunday for 2 weeks, wooohooo.
