I believe the opposite to be true. It is difficult to deceive oneself. Just try to convince yourself of something that you absolutely KNOW is false...like the sky is green and the grass is blue. You won't be able too. If we could, then all of the atheists in this forum that say they would like to believe in a God, but just can't make themselves believe it would not have that problem.

Nope, I wish there was a good god who took care of everyone but there's no evidence, so I have to believe there isn't

It only sums up people who claim to have "Faith."
Atheists are not under this banner, as they do not prefer to have beliefs, rather, they only accept facts.
In short - People of faith prefer to believe only what they prefer to be true.
This is the locus of all religions.

I think so. That's a good quote. People must always test and question their own belief systems. They'll be healthier for it in the end.

I am an atheist, but I really do wish there was an after-life.
