Can not volunteering on my off time affect my performance review?

My job offers a bonus at the end of the year, it is based 80% on your performance, attendance, length of service etc... the other 20% is based on the amount of time an employee volunteers for our not for profit organization. That's issue #1

Issue #2 is that we are doing an event in February, I wanted to volunteer during the day setting up getting things ready etc... but since I work in Finance, my boss "expects me to volunteer" from 9:00pm to 11:30 pm doing monetary stuff- I do not want to do it, I am not able to drive at night, and am usually in bed by 10:00-

Will it look bad if I say I can only do the day time shift?? It is on my Saturday/day off-

Can they "ding" me in my "work" performance review for not volunteering- this has left such a bitter taste in my mouth I feel like I don't even want to volunteer.

Thank you all for answering!

Update:

I am not salaried, and am low man on the totem pole! Thank you all again for your input!

If you are a sallaried employee then you have no set hours. They can work you as long as you want. You know up front that this company values volunteering. They value it so much that it is part of your review.

So, I think that they can do this. You just need to know that this is what they are all about. You are either on board with it or you are not. If it's not something you are into, you need to look for another company or face mediocre reviews.

Yes it can effect your review. But I would venture that the "raise" is not worth the aggravation. I have learned from experience that I only do the extra effort when a highly visible and critical activity if happening. Employers expectation of you increase from the performance of the previous year. If you establish the bar too high in the beginning, it is expected for the following year. Your free time is too valuable, enjoy the time and accept the lower raises with the understanding that you are much happier.
