    US: Turn Ih Ket

(I'm embarrassed to say, because it is a French word, and should be pronounced "Kay" but the funny thing is that in French it doesn't mean tourniquet [huh?] but it means the little gate you go through when you enter the subway and other such entrances, turnstiles.)

It's pronounced "tur`-ni-ket" in America. The British pronunciation is closer to the original French pronunciation (tor-ni-kay).

The English pronunciation is torn E K. The problems start when people try to pronounce it as a French word.

I've heard both TURN-a-key and TURN-a-cut. I'm not aware of either being predominantly British or American, I think they're just alternative pronunciations.
