One of my blinkers is flashing extremely fast...what does that mean?

A couple days ago my left blinker started blinking extremely fast when I use it. It's probably going 5 times faster than normal. My right blinker still goes at the correct speed. What does this mean?

I'm afraid I cannot make out what country you are in? I'm assuming America. If so, then the following observations. 1. The damage to both your and his car could have occurred by you cutting back too early, as well as by his having begun to turn right. 2. You say he had left blinker on. Did he admit this to the police, or can you prove this? I think that is critical! 3. In order to turn right into his destination, did he need to swing well left to enter? So his having had his LEFT blinker on appears the critical thing. Was there a turn, parking area, or place he might have been stopped to turn into, on the left? In other words, a reason to be stopped adjacent to the centreline. It sems to me there is no reason you should NOT pass his vehicle on the right, given there is adequate room and you believed he was turning left. An insurance company will take any avenue to try to lessen their own liability in an accident, never take much notice of them. Read the police report. If it says the other car DID have a left indicator going and DID then turn right, use it! If it is not specific, re the turn indication, I don't know how to advise you. But if it's your word against the other's, with no independent witness testimony, stand your ground, and the most likely outcome is both you and he will be told you are responsible for your own repairs, and no charges laid.

Normally when I've had this problem it is a short in the wiring, the first place to check would be a trailer wiring connector. Sometimes they short out where the connector is tied into the main wiring harness. If you find nothing there or you don't have a trailer connector then you should check your bulbs, look very close at them even though they may light up the filament may be broken and contacting something else. Not the problem? Then it's time to spend money, try replacing the flasher, if that don't work then you need to take it to a repair shop.

I agree with the second poster...it means your blinker bulb is burnt out. From the inside it seems like your blinker is going nuts, but on the outside of the car, nothing's happening.

It probably means that there is a short in one of your turn signals. The flasher works by heating up when it begins powering the bulbs. It disconnects when it gets to a certain temperature. After cooling down, it reconnects the circuit.

When one of the signals has a short, the process is very fast. Look at the turn signals. One will not be as bright as it should be or it will not be lit at all.

It means one of your bulbs are burnt out on that side. IE Your left front or rear blinker bulb is shot.

It is basically your cars way of telling you that one of the bulbs on the side that blinks fast, is blown.

    Blown fuse OR burnt bulb.

it means that the bulb is burnt out or you need a new fuse.

Your flasher control box needs to be replaced - usually it's near/on your fuse box.
