It depends on how old your PC is and what operating system it uses. You must have a Wireless Router, as well.

If Windows 2000 or newer, a Pentium 3 CPU, and USB 2.0 support built-in to the motherboard, maybe.

Want to be 100% sure? Buy a used PC that is less than 3 years old with XP, minimum, OR buy a new PC or Laptop (WiFi included).

Then, virtually any USB 2.0 WiFi adapter will work with your PC, providing you have the afore mentioned Wireless router, which is required by both the Desktop and the laptop.

If it's an older PC, you'd get better performance installing a card than using a USB adapter, especially if you only have USB 1.1; that said, even on USB 1.1, a USB wireless adapter will work in most instances - make sure the adapter has drivers for the OS before you buy one, if it's running a version of Windows older than XP.
