Sony Car Stereo Problem...help! Pontiac Firebird!?

I recently purchased a Sony Xplod stereo system for my 1979 Pontiac Firebird. I need some help here. I have attempted to install the stereo with no success. I am not getting the unit to power on. I originally hooked the stereo up in the car and received no response from it, I then proceeded to manually hook it up to the car's battery to test for power. Even when hooked up to the battery itself, I received no response from the stereo unit. The fuse in the back of the unit is NOT blown either, already checked. Do I have a faulty stereo or is there something that I'm doing wrong? Any help is greatly appreciated! Best answer will be chosen and awarded points! Thanks!

You need to have the red (switched) and the yellow (constant) powered and the black (ground) grounded. Do this at the battery. Check the fuse in the back of the radio, and make sure the faceplate is on right. If you don't have any sign of life from the radio it is bad.

a new unit !! OK if you placed unit outside by battery and are very sure it has a good ground and that the power wire (red) is directly connected to + battery and the light on wire is also connected to battery and power volume control is ON and at least on speaker is hooked up for noise !! then yes you may have gotten some one Else's returned bad radio??

you might have blown a fuse in the car, not the radio itself.

It might just be the radio it self
