5 year girl who has a fear of playing?

My daughter is 5 years old. When we go to places that you play on a playground or the bouncing places, she freaks out and starts crying. She is scared to death. She is ok if it is just her and friends. this only happens in these two situations. Otherwise, she is fine. Any advice ? has anyone experienced this?

Has she always been like this around groups of strangers, or is this a new behavior? My son was the same way, only he began to display this behavior before he was 3. After watching the condition worsen over 1 1/2 years, we spoke to his Pediatrician about the situation and got him involved with a play group and working with a behavioral therapist. This has done wonders for him, we can now take him to the park, McDonald's play-land, fun-domes, and watch him dive right in with the other kids to have a good time, instead of dealing with an hour of coaxing to take part, a temper tantrum or near panic attack, because of the strangers. This could be just a phase your daughter is going though, however, if it seems to be a long term problem, I would definitely talk to her doctor and get their opinion.

  • You should talk to her and ask her why she is scared. Show her that nothing bad is going to happen and you will be their the whole time watching her.
