Why is my laptop battety not charging it is plugged in but says: "Plugged in, but not charging", why?

HP pavillion laptop, have had no previous problems with it

It has registered the cable is in laptop but is not charging the laptop

Update:

It is plugged into wall and laptop securely

    just wait. sometimes it's doing this. in 10-20 minutes will start charging ;)

    just let it power on and you'll see. it's about the optimisation of battery.

    it happened to me on some hp. I run it on battery till the low battery alert appeared, plugged it in and the above message you specified was there. let him alone... doing other things and without noticed, when I was looking again the battery was charging.

    vista as operating system if I remember well.

    If in half hour does not start charging.. consider replacing battery. is it old?

    more than an hour have passed. did you solved the problem?

    i have that same laptop hp dv6405 pavillion it did that once just found that the charge was overheated or the battery was overheated to let it cooled then it work fine again.

    Mine did this last night. I discovered it was because it was already fully charged!

    It would suggest that your battery needs replacing.
