Milk Dried up?

When my son was born he would not take to the breast. he was just too lazy as all the midwives told me. I was determind that I wanted to breastfeed but I did not want my baby to suffer from jaundice or any other problems because he wasn't eating so I decided to give him formula as well as expressed breast milk. I contimued to express two feeds a day for him for 4 weeks and then my milk started to dry up. It reallt really upset me. That was two weeks ago and yesterday my boobs were quite sore and leaked a little. So I got my pump out and tried to express and got a really tiny amount (about 10ml). Does this mean I am still producing milk? How can I produce more if I am?! I really want my baby to continue to have my milk if he can! My boobs aren't as big and full feeling as they were when he ws first born though. Anybody exprerienced similar things?!

I had a drastic reduction in flow when i started to go back ot work part time...

POWER PUMP!!! that is what you need to do pump ever two hours for like a week, get the demand need up and those milk glands should start producing.. the more you pump the more you get... don't get discouraged wither call the la leche league in your area and talk to your doc too... i figure any amount of breast milk if you have it is great!!!

You can also take fenugreek an herbal supplement or drink the mother's milk tea that you can find in healthfood sections of stores and that will help to increase your supply...

Good luck and good for you ..

people think that because breast feeding is all natural it should come as the most natural thing for a new mother to do...unfortunately that is sometimes not the case. When your breasts are hard and leaking a bit and yet you cannot express any milk, it could be that your breasts are simply too full. I found that taking a hot shower "loosened" them up a bit, and by expressing some out in the shower I could then breastfeed normally. If your milk is pouring out the baby has a hard time taking it all in without choking. This may not answer you question entirely, but this tip really helped me out when I was at my wits end, so I really hope it helps you as well. Kudos to you for not giving up. :-)

    Be well, and good luck!

I had a similar situation..... My baby is now 4 months old and my breasts are still less full. Eventhough I suplement with formula, I still breastfeed her. My advice : if you dont really want to dried up, put your baby to eat from you, or pump out, this is how you will increment the amount of milk. It's all about supply and demand. The more your baby gets from you, the more milk you will have to offer. GOOD LUCK.

You just have to keep pumping, the more you pump the more you will produce, this is very normal!! just keep on pumping and your body will make more to keep up with the demand!!! stop the formula and just pump away and feed it to him through a bottle the same way you would with formula, you will start producing more right away! and if you keep giving the formula still keep pumping and just freeze the breast milk until you use it! You can buy freezing supplies at wal-mart! you could also talk to your ob and see if he or she can provide you a prescription to help you produce more milk! Thats all you can do!!! Congrats on the baby and goodluck!!!

I would suggest you start drinking mothers milk tea or taking fenugreek supplements. You can get them in the health food section of your regular store or at a health food store. Both work well for upping your milk supply. I have friends that swear fenugreek will actually up your supply the first day you take it.

You might also try again to get him to attach since his mouth will be much more efficient at getting the milk out than the pump. I would suggest contacting la leche league for some help.

    Good luck!!

to get more you have to pump a lot...you should take what they call a breastfeeding vacation and just pump every two hours, or maybe every hour to get your supply back up. A lot of women do this, and it would be very beneficial to you and to baby.
