What suggestions do you have for a fun but low key 30th birthday party?

I will be turning 30 next month and have requested that my husband throw me a party. While he's happy to do so, he's also lacking for activities. We have a 3yo who will be in attendance as well as my family and a VERY mixed bag of friends (current/former coworkers, friends from college, friends I haven't seen in ages). I don't mind a moderate amount of drinking but don't want to expose my son to anything too crazy! We are trying to get by on the cheap with this one and it will be at our apartment. Approx. 10 guests of varying ages and interests. I was thinking of having someone bring karaoke revolution (a video game) and maybe guitar hero. I also kind of want a kinda kid-themed party since this is truly the end of my youth! ;-)

Your attempting to cover a lot of bases with this party. My suggestion on the alcohol is to decide how much you want at the party and provide that amount( 12 pack of beer, 1 bottle of wine). Nobody brings there own bottle. Have soft drinks and non alcohol alternatives. I think the rest of your idea sounds great, have fun, life really doesn't start till your over 30..

how about have some games like Scene it or Taboo is always a good game. For food maybe Chinese food. Some restaurants will do a buffet style for about $10 per person. ummm, maybe ask everyone to make a dish and you and your husband can provide drinks. What ever you decide to do it will be a success. Have fun and Happy Birthday!!!
