As a former long time Dem, I would have voted McCain over bush in the 2000 election, and the country would be better off for it. As much as I disagree with McCain over immigration, he would have never taken us into a war of choice in Iraq as did the boy king. McCain. I can't help thinking how much better off we'd be today if McCain had challenged Bush to a dogfight for the Republican nomination in 2004. He certainly couldn't have won a primary challenge, but this way he could have saved us from the second 4 years of this miserable administration.
