What kind of foods would you feed a Diabetic dog?
Our dog was diagnosed with diabetes today.
I was wondering if there were any good dog foods easily available, or recipes that are quick and easy to make that won't interfere with the diabetes.
Thanks in advance!

my father in laws dog is diabetic and he was told sparky could eat ordinary dog meat but not in excess and to watch the foods with carbohydrates in as with any diabetic, animal or human its sugar and carbohydrates that push up blood sugars. carbohydrates are things like potato and rice and also pasta. for recipes try www.caninediabetes.org and it has loads of info on caring for your dog.
i really hope this helps.

The higher the meat content the better. Stay away from dog food that contains corn products and wheat flour. Add a dollop of canned pumpkin to whatever food you are using. The pumpkin is a great source of natural fiber, which is great for diabetic dogs. IMHO, a lot depends on the type of diabetes. If your dog is diabetic because it's insulin production has fallen (due to something like pancreatitis), then chances are the dogs pancreas is not in good shape. If this is the case, you should consider a putting your dog on a raw diet. Raw diets are much easier for a dog to digest and if the pancreas has been damaged, then its overall production could be reduced. In addition to insulin, the pancreas produces other things that are involved in the digestion of food.
I have an insulin dependent diabetic dog that was doing very poorly until I switched to a raw diet. On the raw diet, he became his old self.
There is a book called "Dogs, Diets, and Disease" that I heighly recommend, particluarly for people with dogs that are diabetic.
Good luck.

I would stick with what the Vet recommends, usually a diet low in sodium and sugar. Perhaps a Science diet available at the vet. You will need to make sure the dog keeps drinking enough water as Diabetes affects the Kidney system.

There is a lot of stuff on the internet that is basically fat-shaming diabetics for causing their own diabetes with their bad diet and lack of exercise and general lack of moral fibre. A lot of this stuff is written by non-doctors, often with a supplement or diet or training plan to sell that they claim will completely cure diabetes if only people stick to it.
I read this interesting book https://tr.im/w5R6x that gave me a lot of useful tips about my disease and also a different perspective on the best therapeutical approach. I think you should read it too.
I hope it helps

i would go to a dog nutritionist, not a vet, for advice about what to feed your diabetic dog. most vets know nothing about nutrition!
for example, a rep from science diet will teach new vets a class on nutrition, and of course they will tell the vets that their food is the best and the healthiest and whatever other lies they make up. science diet is garbage! even the prescription diets! there is SAWDUST in the prescription diets!!!!!

Your veterinarian should be making recommendations on what food your dog should eat. Diabetic animals have special nutritional needs and usually need a prescription diet.

Innova Evo is a good food. If the dog's kidneys are ok, the hi protein low carb make-up of this diet make it ideal for helping keep diabetes in check.

It's far better quality than that DM crap that they usually recommend. : )
