they have to be pure with registered ancestors all the way back.

No, a Thoroughbred is just that - a pure bred.
They must be able to trace their ancestry back in the exisiting stud books.
In GB we have something called the non-Thoroughbred register. This is for horses who cannot prove their full ancestry.
If your horse has standarbred blood in a recent generation then he would not be allowed to register with the Jockey Club.

NOPE....
every horse in the thoroughbred stud book can trace its ancestry back to one of three sires.
who and what they were is up to you to find out.
