For adults over 50 - what is your outlook on life?

I don't want to offend anyone but I am curious about this. I have known several older adults, some may call them Senior Citizens, and have noticed that some have such a positive outlook on life that it just amazes me. And yet I have met others that seem so angry. Sometimes they are couples but have a completely different disposition. For example, my mom was a very positive person. She had suffered through many hardships in her life but still remained, until her death, so positive about everything. On the other hand my dad, who also suffered many tragedies, was such a negative person until the day he died. So what is it that makes you either a happy old person or an angry old person. I'm getting close to being a senior myself and really don't want to be an angry & crabby old woman. Can anyone tell me what it is that helps them to keep such a positive outlook on life when life has been so cruel to you?

Update:

No I don't think over 50 is old. I'm almost 51 myself. But yes there are people out there older than me, that have been through tragedies in their lives. I just want to know what makes a person either happy or crabby in their later years.

Update 2:

I never said anything about sitting around waiting to die. And I'm talking about keeping a positive attitude when you have dealt with many tragedies in your life not when your life has been supposedly perfect.

Lets see I just had my 61st birthday and I look forward to each new day because I am sure to learn something that day. It might be something little or it might be something big I just have to find this nugget of information. There are many things in a persons life that can give them a positive or negative attitude. I think it is in how you approach these events in your life that makes the difference in the long run. I also think it is something you are born with not something taught by your parents or grandparents. We have all seen babies who seem to cry at the drop of a hat and then seen other babies who are just a ray of sunshine. I choose not to dwell of the sad parts of life, I choose not to let the bad things drag me down but I think I was born choosing that way to go. I have been told many times I don't look my age but I don't think it is my looks as much as my positive outlook on the world.

over 50 is old to you? I'm 51 can honestly say I don';t look it act it or feel it it is just a number. I have anxiety but I've had that since about 30. I take meds but the same ones since I was younger, my outlook on life is great. I have two grown kids 30 & 23 I have the same husband all these years and I have the loves of my heart my 3 grand-kids. So all & all you don't just sit around & wait to die when you over 50.

Life is only going to be as cruel as you allow it to be. You don't have to wait to over 50 to determine what your gonna do with all those lemons !! Much of us have embraced this wonderful time!! I sure didn't think I would enjoy it as much as I do!! Man it's endless of what you can do!! Some people I believe are angry cause that's all they know to be, they were never happy in their lives. But listen your going to get the best of the best once you hit 50 !! I'm telling you this out of experience !!
