High ASVAB score... Bargaining Power?
I got a 95 on my ASVAB test, highest score is a 99 currently. Should I be more demanding about the jobs I want?
My recruiter told me that I should have at least ten job choices, to ensure that I can get a job with the Air Force Within a Year. Is she just trying to fill particular slots?
Also, with a score in the 90s in every category, is there any leverage for me to ask the Air Force to pay for me to get schooling and join as an officer.
I got a good score, and I just want to get what I deserve when it is time to sign. ANY input is greatly appreciated!
Peace

My husband got an equally high score and yes, he did have to choose 10 jobs. They aren't "filling slots", its just that there are thousands of people wanting the exact same jobs that you want, so there needs to be flexibility. They will put you where they need you. Be sure that all 10 options really are things you'd like to do. It never fails, the one thing you put as a "filler" will be the one you get.
My husband put HVAC as his 8th choice. That's the one he got. lol Luckily, he really enjoys it.
On a side note, I can't help but giggle at the fact that you think you could have "bargaining power" with the military. hehehehehehe.

I got a 79 average. I took the P and P-ASVAB. Mostly because I got a 62 on the PC and a 98 on the MC. Yea not the best ever but I m still in highschool. Either way my dad just retired 20 years in the navy as an enginemen, got an 87 on it "Back when he was a boy", and said that his chief almost threw a kid off the boat for thinking he can order the recruiter around just cause he got a 96 on the ASVAB.

First rule: The needs of the military come before yours. That said they do try to meet your request. Given when you applied that month and the opening they have at the time they will start at the top and work their way down the list. If you are lucky you will get one of your top 5. Make sure what you put at the bottom of the list is also what you want to do.
Also have you talked with an ROTC recruiter. With a score that high I am going to assume that your other grades are good as well. ROTC will pay you 1/2 or full tuition scholarship.
I went through ROTC and spent 9 years in the Air Force.

I got the same score a 95. I'm going for warrant officer as helicopter pilot but I was going for that from the beginning. As far as any bargaining power you're thinking of I doubt you will get it. Recruiter told me I could have any job I wanted (army) but I'm pretty sure your asvab will just put you in a better position to get whatever mos you desire. They definetly aren't going to try to rush you in as an officer

Well, everything is computerized. So all jobs you are qualified for will show if there is an opening for it. So you can be demanding, but that doesnt mean there will be a slot. Also, you are right to always question the recruiters motives, but the Air Force is currently downsizing. Being an officer requires at least a 4 year degree less they changed it. Your score basically opens up jobs if available. But a 95 on that test isnt a great thing, so not much bargining power.

The only branch of the military where you get a guaranteed job, in writing, is the Army. The others will tell you that is what you get, but they can change their minds and put you someplace else if the need in that area is greater. Check out the jobs offered by the Army and you may find exactly what you are looking for. Since you have already taken the ASVAB, they will be more than willing to hlep you get what you want.

Been there, done that, still ended up as a bomb loader. The Air Force is currently downsizing and has more than enough warm bodies coming in. You have more leverage than most drooling mouth-breathers with ten thumbs but in the end they'll put you where THEY want you.
