Definitely life imitates art. I don't if its always been this way. But in today's world you try to be what you buy into. You like rock music...start dressing in a way that tells people you're into rock music, etc.

Art Imitates life.....What else can explain the different and many varied fads in our lives?
The 60's had hippies and 'love children', et al; The 70's Afros, Bell-bottoms, Disco.
On and on, dance trends and fads: but we are basically, the same people, just going along with the latest fashions and trends in our particular age groups...!!

I think it's both. Without the inspiration of our perceptions and realizations in life there would be no art...when someone creates something artistically unique then those in life run with it and imitate it to another level...so it's both. I don't believe you can have one without the other because our imaginations are always evolving.
Peace! Pami ^_^

Life imitates anything it can get its grubby little hands on

neither
art is an idea inside the artist mind, it is the life projected in his own mind, how he see it, or how he wish to see it, it doesn't necessarly immitate life, thier could be creation, & innoviation which mean tht he is creating it from no where
and we love art b/c it shows us whts in the artist mind, and it tells us the artist feeling ideas, which is like being into someone else mind, and putting our thoughts in it.
i mean its the artist putting a question & every one else is wondering wht is the answer
gosh, i'm starting to talk like my GF, i have to stop or the next thing, i'll found myself visiting the museum

Unfortunately we do share this planet with a continued stereotyping. i listen to many types of music, including Classical music, I can wear jeans and T. shirt indoors, if i choose to. The same with other styles of music..
