High CPU usage.. Long Boot times?

Hey everyone..

I am running a

P4 3.4Ghz dual core processor

1.5GB Ram

ATI 1600 pro video card

80GB hardrive

And the problem is that, the time it takes to boot my PC on the Boot Screen has increased dramatically.. And games take longer to load, such as when I try to play online to connect to a server.

And when I play movies it goes from 5% CPU usage to 60% for 2 seconds, which makes it go pausey and jerky, and then it goes back to normal for about 30 seconds, then for 2 seconds pausey and jerky again then back to normal.

It's so annoying because games take forever to load and connect

there are a few things that could be causing this, first things first run a defrag on your hard-drive. That is the number one performance killer. Second, make sure you aren't running unneccesary programs at startup, many people have all of their IM'ing programs opening up along with other stuff that they do not need. Lastly, run a scan for spyware using Ad-Aware or Spybot as they can seriously damper your performance.

The same thing is happening to me with my useless 2000 $ PC. i suspect that while i was playing one of these online multiplayers the host server tapped into my PC and screwed everything up. i have done multiple ( different companies) scans and nothing shows up. it seems as if the CPU is trying to do all the work even though i have an 8800gt oc GP. there is something called dma controller that is missing from my PC.it allows memory to be used without using CPU.OK, so i tried to update that driver, said no driver, clicked on other and it said driver working correctly.......... so anyway that's the only thing i know. also my files are missing and or moved around...and i didn't move anything. i bought some recovery disks and will most likely have to erase or replace the hard drive.

Source(s): found thousands of file/path references named Ebay. ink ,everytime i try to delete the software has an error and closes.

No, that's what the CPU is for. A modern desktop CPU should be able to run all cores at 100% 24/7 for many years without any problem. (It may do a tiny bit of thermal throttling, but that's not a problem.)

    1. A Cluttered Registry

    2. Too Many Start-Up Programs

    3. Full Hard Drive

    4. Not Enough Memory

    5. Spyware and Malicious Programs

There is 5 things that slow a pc down. Have you ever done any house keeping on your pc?? Like delete browsing history, run antispyware, scan for viruses, defrag your hard drive, delete temp. internet files?

Put it down to operator error, not the PC's fault.

make sure you have a good maintainence program on your system such as Fixit 8, or Macaffees. run the registry repair and optimize functions. Also make sure you have scaned for malware and virus, etc. I like avonquest Fixit 8. It's available OTC (over the counter), or download from www.avonquest.com. it's not free, but it's reasonable, and it works very well.

clean up unused files and software. Download Ccleaner from ccleaner.com and run it so it can clean your system then do a virus and spyware scan. Use msconfig and get rid of some startup programs. Defrag your system and you will see a big boost in startup and shut down and better performance.

Run virus, spyware, adware scans, run the disc cleaner and defrag, empty your temp folder, remove as many programs as you can from the start-up., run check disk, run a registry cleaner (If you don't have one, there are several on the net--just Google registry cleaner.)

sounds like you have some king of adware, spyware or maybe some kind of virus running in the background. Try running a scan on your hard drive & RAM.....
