Can someone help me with my USB hub?
I have the following devices
1.External Drive
2.Ipod
3.Wireless mouse
4.Laptop fan
5.Printer USB cable
I have 2 on the left side and one on the right as you can see I don't have enough ports. I bought a $10 USB Hub with 4 ports in it and as of now the following are in the USB Hub.
1.Ipod
2.External Drive
3.Laptop fan
4.Printer
The Wireless mouse is in a port on the left side of the laptop. Here is what my computer popped up with:
Your USB Mass Storage Device can perform faster if plugged into a Hi-Speed USB port. It says use the ports that are bold (it then shows the following USB things
Standard PCI to USB Host Controller
USB Root Hub (8 ports) (It's bold which confuses me)
(3) Unused USB ports(??)
USB Composite Device (I guess the USB Hub?)
(4) Unused USB ports (??)
Uhhhh? I only have 3 regular ports and 1 (4) port USB Hub I hope someone can help me with all this confusion thank you.

It is not clear to me what your question is but I will try to address everything listed.
If you plug the external drive directly into the laptop do you get the "Your USB Mass Stor.... perform faster..." message?
If yes then your notebook has a USB v1.1 controller. This is not a bad thing, it just means that your USB works a little bit slower then the newer usb v2.0 ports.
If you don't get that "....perform faster.." message, it means that the USB hub you bought is a v1.1 hub. In this case the hubs slows your connection down. This also is not a bad thing, just make sure you connect only the items that don't require data transfer speed (like the laptop fan) to the hub.
All the other USB stuff you see like USB Root hub etc have to do with the USB controller on the motherboard. The 'microchip' that 'takes care' the usb ports can normally have 8 or so usb ports connected to it but your laptop manufacturer decided to use only 5 of those 8. All this stuff has to do with the internal workings of the computer. Don't worry about these.
One last thing I want to reccommend is to get a powered usb hub. If you connect a "non powered" usb hub with 4 devices these devices may need power that the usb port cannot supply which will result in unpredictable behaviour of the 4 devices.

Sound like you have a laptop which is a few years old and is running usb1, unfortunately you cannot as far as I am aware update to usb 2. However, if it's a pc then you can by purchasing a usb2 controller. Hope this is of help!!
