Can anyone take a stab at what breed my cat is?
He is from the SPCA, so they didn't know. He is 23 pounds and the vet says he isnt fat, he is the right weight for his frame. He is very longed hair. Super friendly, meets me at the door when i come home, plays fetch, likes car rides and walking on a leash. He is solid black.
Here is a pic
You don't have to download the picture, its just a link to a site with the pic. But whatevers.

My guess is that he has Maine Coon "blood", or maybe some Norwegian Forest in him. The Maine Coon breed is known for it's very large size, friendly and playful temperament, and sometimes a very small squeaky meow.
He is GORGEOUS.
The Maine Coons come in all colors, but the other writer is very correct in their info of how "pure breed" cats aren't the same as dogs. But still, the very large size (without being overweight) is a great indicator of the likely Maine Coon lineage in him. Also, the fluffy neck fur looks a lot like Maine Coon. Norwegian Forest cats are a lot like the Maine Coon, but tend to be more independent. This site is one I found that had some info and pictures for you to check out. Maybe it will answer some questions for you.

Without a pedigree, any cat is one of three things: Domestic Short Hair, Domestic Medium Hair, or Domestic Long Hair. It's basically the generic mutt/mixed breed catch-all of the cat world. Cats are not the same as dogs, purebred cats are few and far between, and don't come without a price tag. Finding them in a shelter is a one in a million chance. And they don't walk around producing 50/50 crosses the way dogs do, you can't pick out every cat and say it's part Siamese, or Maine Coon, or whatever else. If it's not a purebred, pedigreed cat, it's just a regular cat. Yours is a long hair, so it's a Domestic Long Hair. My family has a total of like 6 cats I think, all of them Domestic Short Hairs, and they come in every size, shape, color, and temperment imagineable.

A little hard to tell with him lying down, but he does look a lot like a Maine Coon. His paws appear tufted, and his tail is fluffly and looks fairly long, though the angle is strange. Maine Coons have large ears and an "M" shaped forehead. Another big trait is the feel of their coat - Maine Coons tend to have a "silky" coat. In a black Maine Coon it will also appear very shiny and reflective in the light. When I take pictures of my black Maine Coon, they don't come out well with the flash on - he reflects the light! Though it could just be the way the picture looks, from this particular picture I would say he has about 0% Persian in him.

This cat sounds and looks just like my brothers cats, the only reason I know their breed story is because I knew the mother and father. I would guess that he is a domestic and Maine Coon. Other character traits of Maine Coons are talking and bad grooming habits. This is not always true, but if he is a Coon monitor his grooming and watch for matting as he gets older. He's a cutie!

He definitely looks like a Persian mix to me. Persians have the round face and the cobby body. His face isn't flat enough to be a purebred. But from the picture and your description I certainly think he is a Persian mix.

He sounds and looks like a Russian Blue mix.

What a sweetie! I do not see any breed-specific features. I think he is a general domestic long-haired cat; a mutt.

Possibly a Domestic Medium hair, if they actually use that as a breed. Don't think it's a coon, since his ears aren't quite...
Or is it maybe a British Medium hair? I don't know much about some of the breeds.

I would say ur cat is more then likely a black persian. I used to own 2 white ones and they looked just like it.
