is it possible for my ear to return to normal afterwards? i have a friend that had 8mm tunnels and when he took them out his ears returned to normal and it didn't even look as though they had been stretched...

yeah, skin is really naturally stretchy when you are young, (from collegen and elastin) and begins to lose the stretch after age 35. My ears were 0gauge and went back to normal in about 7 months.
