How do I use SQL?

I'm new to SQL and am not sure in what program or application I enter the command syntax. Do I need special software, or is there something I can download? Anything else I need to know? Also, what are the best resources for learning SQL, i.e., tutorials, forums, etc.? Any assistance is appreciated.

    You need a client for whatever database server you use.

    SQL is sort of a 'language' that is used to query a database.

    So you need to run the sql on a database, whether it be Micosoft Access, SQL Server, Oracle, etc.
