There really isn't anything you can do. These motors, i'm assuming you have a 3.1, are common for this. You can try a good motor flush, they do make a ceramic additive you can try also. Other than that unless you want to spend big bucks on replcaing the lifters and valves you just have to deal with this. Overall they are good motors my family has had qutie a few of these and most go well over 200,000 miles even with the tick.

I can't remember if these engines have adjustable lifters or not. You'll have to ask the repair guy. If so, there's your answer.
If not, one of your lifters is co lapsing or wearing or the cam is wearing. Both are fixable. If you don't want to go to that ex pence, change your oil to 15-40. Your prob. using 5-30 or 10-30. When the engine is cold, the oil is thick. The oil warms up and gets thin er, the thickness of 5 or 10 microns. The older your engine gets, the more it has worn and you need to fill those worn spots with thicker oil otherwise you get more and more wearing faster and faster till a breakage occur es.
15-40 is actually diesel engine oil and made to much higher specs. than a gas engine needs but, try it. One of my caddys has 320,000 0n it the other has 585,000 , neither uses oil between changes.

You ABSOLUTELY DO NOT run 20w/50 in your engine this will cause serious damage especially in very cool weather because 20w/50 motor oil is almost as thick as molasses's at room temp. in cooler to cold temp. will not let the oil pump . pump oil through the engine witch will destroy the engine due to lack of lubrication. ( the higher the number of the weight of the oil the thicker the oil will be at start up ) 20w/50 is more suited for racing applications wear the engine runs hotter and warmer temps.

oil additive,maybe...but just don't go to a real thick oil-it takes too long too flow when cold, and will do more harm.change the oil-it's possible a lifter may just have a piece of trash in it.then add some additive.put a delco oil filter on it-no cheap off brand.

tha best thing you could do is change your oil and put lucas addative to it. this helped me i used 1 qt lucas oil addative with 4 qts mobile 1 oil. theres not much you can do other than this if you dont wanna open tha motor and replace stuff like lifters and tha cam n stuff. ive had a lot of 3.1's(assuming this is what it is) they almost all have this noise in time its normal wear and tear.

add lucas brand oil addative and run 20/ 50 weight oil this will quiet it down and increase compression ive done it, it works
