Susan has the overall descriptions right.

Death Notices are courtesy of the newspaper giving the Name of the deceased person, date of death, and where the services will be held. It is a very brief subject matter for the very intent "Notice" and this is not charged by the Newspaper but served as the purpose of society announcement when one is no longer a part of it.

Obituary will of course have the same informational elements as the Death Notice, but the story is told about how the person lived, churches and social clubs attended, places they lived, how they may have died, and the survivors' names of the beloved. This is paid by the family to "advertise" this cherish or saddened event (depends on family view of death) and why it is considered an honor to have an obituary in conjunction to a notice.

    Hope that helped!

A death notice is what you see a lot of in the newspaper--- there is a little picture of the deceased (sometimes) with information about their survivors and where and when the services will be held. Basic information like that is included...

An obituary, on the other hand, is more of a "life story" or editorial about the deceased. They take up much more space than death notices and not everyone has an obituary. It is an honor to have one!

Ok..I'd be ok with guns having more safety features and campaigns on gun safety....Notice though that bqnning alcohol has never been suggested as a way to save lives despite the fact drunk drivers kill more people than mass shootings?
