Does Australia have non smoking legislation? Hotels? Bars? North? South?

Australian states and territories have their own separate smokefree public places laws

But in general

- No smoking in any hospital grounds in or outside

- no smoking policy for commercial and workplace buildings

- Anywhere near where food is being consumed (yes pubs included!)

- Inside or near playgrounds, public swimming pools

- and some beach areas (not between the flags)

- the biggest policy is you have to be 4m away from any doorway to a building

There are on the spot fines for being caught.

Retailers are also only allowed to show a certain amount of smokes for sale - they are generally hidden in a cupboard behind the counter!

Australia now has a no smoking policy inside nearly all commercial buildings. No smoking inside workplace buildings, near where food is being consumed, near childrens playgrounds and between the flags on the beaches. You also can't smoke within 4m (20 feet) of a doorway. There probably are more place but this is all I can think of at the moment Australia wide

i know in victoria you cant smoke in restaurants, bars, clubs or the casino (unless ur in the high roller room), im pretty sure you cant smoke in any covered public place (i.e a shop awning) so hotels and stuff are building beer gardens like mad so people can drink and smoke to get around the legislation.....

although theres an odd loophole where you cant smoke in any of these place but you can still legally smoke inside a primary school.....figure that

Australian hotels and bars at least in Victoria are smoke free. It's great because I can go out on the **** and not come home reeking of cigarette smoke.

They provide areas outside for smokers.

Most buildings are smoke free, and have been for years. You can't smoke in most businesses and government buildings.

I think most states have instituted laws banning smoking in bars, pubs, and clubs. Non smokers get pretty upset if you light up near them anyway.

Basically no smoking indoors except private homes or close to government buildings, schools etc. Much the same in all states.
