XP or Vista, that's the question?
My husband has the opportunity to buy a new computer for our home through his office. Since he can order through his job, we can pick whether or not we want XP or Vista.
Our old computer which has XP on it is dying. It needs to replaces pronto. We have had it since 2002 and this is the first we have any problems with it.
We have heard horror stories about Vista. Does Microsoft have all of those issues worked out? Is it safe for us to get Vista? Will all of my kids computer games work OK on Vista?
I know, sooooo many questions. Soooooo, I am looking to all of my good buddies on Yahoo Answers for some good sound advise.
Thanks!

I have a high speed home network.I have 4 computers,2 XP,2 Vista(one is a media edition). To be honest in many ways the XP is a better OS,with features that don't make it to Vista.Vista is all "Dazzle",is not widely compatible to all websites, that are still upgrading. The expensive feature programs you bought for your XP like games, will not work on Vista even though it shows run in XP"Format" in Properties, you can't.It's like everything has to be new.Vista is very powerful, quick, loads of memory.I like my Media Edition,'cause it works like"TiVo"& I have a 30" monitor.I mostly use the computers for computer graphics & art.I've spent $250 for 2 Roxio products for Vista.,for art I use XP with video wave & my other favorites. To try & salvage your XP make sure you have all your updates for it,sign up for notices of patches for the updates.Keep it defragmented,& a clean disk.Do some house cleaning on the XP by throwing out or copying all those files you keep on the hard drive that slow it down.Throw out any downloaded programs you no longer need or use.Add more memory, internal or external,& that would be another question you'd have to ask,I don't know that because I keep no files on the computers, unless they're supposed to be there. If you are going to go new,go Vista Premium minimum.Buy a product brand you're familiar with.Good Luck, you'll survive the minor quirks.

Stay away from Vista like the plague nothing works with it and to top things off the long awaited updates for Vista has arrived but they wont install!
The updates just give error messages and Microsoft support has been no help what so ever on this issue.
Outher people are now haveing this same problem and there will be more,i have placed a link for you that concrens a question about this issue this morning, No one know what to do.
In addition %80 of the programs that you are now useing wnt work with Vista, some will if you spend hours and hours trying to find drivers even for the simplest things like a printer (:
Go with XP
I'm going back to XP
Mohamed there is'nt any tech support for vista i tried but no go

Leave it to Microsoft to make another crappy OS. Well, my dad and I always wait about 2 or 3 years before getting a brand new operating system because that way all the bugs get worked out. If I were you I'd wait for Vista and just get XP for now. I mean, XP is pretty reliable, right?

I recently (2 months ago) bought a new Acer PC running Windows Vista Home Premium and so far I had absolutely no problems. No compatablity issues, no blue screens, no sudden freezing, and best of all, I am loving it.
You should be aware that Vista needs to run on a system with enough memory to run smoothly. I suggest at least 2 Gb of RAM and an Intel processor (choose either Intel Core 2 Duo, or even better, Intel Core 2 Quad).
Microsoft will stop making releasing updates for XP, so I suggest you use their latest Windows product to keep it up to date.

I'd take XP for now. You can always upgrade to Vista later when they sort it's problems out.
I've run XP SP1 for years with no trouble lol.

all the man made things will have error..
Vista... the SECURED Operating System.
It has many issues but they are sorted out.. even I was in Vista Support, we had many UNRESOLVED issues but now, we have solutions...
go for the Vista, enjoy the graphics, security, Advanced options.. and many more...
NOTE : Microsoft is releasing the LAST and the LATEST Service Pack (SP3) for WIndows XP- Almost outdated
do you know?
when XP was released, it was the WORST operating System.
XP became stable only after its SP2.. ... The ppl who are blamming VISTA is the ppl who got the VISTA in the begining..
My personal Suggestion,.
go for vista

no not all the issues with vista are worked out and you will have problems getting software to run. I would highly suggest you go with XP.

Windows Vista is the nice, the entire approach. If you replace the OS to the Service Pack two, the efficiency is the identical as Windows 7. It is right that Vista used to be kinda gradual ago however its efficiency obtained greater inside the various updates that have been made via Microsoft. Now, its efficiency is as well because it will get. Yet, the one factor that Vista AND Seven are a enormous unhappiness is the damned "Network and Sharing Centre". It's so unhealthy and so vain that I do not even suppose approximately making use of any type of networking with any of those procedures. In the opposite hand, Windows XP is a lot more intelligent in that feel however no longer so much nontoxic. If you relatively desire a nontoxic community, you should not suppose approximately Windows besides. There is a purpose why so much servers use Red Hat - despite the fact that it is extra luxurious than Microsoft Solutions.

I'd stick with XP. Vista looks nice and can be fast sometimes, but it's extremely annoying and sometimes just locks you out of doing stuff you want to.

get XP. Vista is still not as stable as it should be. in general i usually don't upgrade to a newer version of Windows until there's at least a good service pack.
