What should it cost to have the alternator replaced in my vehicle?
2005 Town and Country van. It is at an authorized dealership. It has 58000 miles. I bought an extended warantee which I expect to cover it, but I want to know what the cost would be if not covered. Thanks. I'm in Indiana.

There are two alternators they could have installed from the factory on your van. The higher one should run you approx. $430, and the lower one about fifty dollars less. This estimate is dealer price alternator for Dallas Texas area at a labor rate of $79 dollar/hr.

Well, the alternator itself is between $200 and $250, and it shouldn't take longer than two hours to replace it (somewhere around $160 for labor) We just priced having ours replaced.
A lot depends on the dealership. We usually drive an hour away to a different one than our local because the local adds on a ton of fees and such, whereas our favored one is much more laid back and usually costs less.

Often an alternator shop will do the job cheaper. Dealerships are the worse places to have such work done they overprice everything and there are lots of capable independant shops. I recently got a price from a shop to remove, repair and replace my alternator on a Nisson for about $55.
